Notice

Dave Cushman died on 22nd February 2011 and shortly before he died he asked me to take over his websites. I later learnt he bequeathed them to me. I am a beekeeper and we discussed the future of the beekeeping website with Dave telling me I could develop it how I wished. He specifically asked that all non-beekeeping websites and pages stay exactly as they are and I promised I would maintain them as long as I could. I understand his reasons and will respect them, so I am unable to accept any offers of additions or updates.

I am aware these pages are used for reference by many people. I am happy for them to continue to be used providing the user is satisfied the information is suitable for their purposes and they take the necessary precautions.

Throughout these pages there may be references to people who may no longer be with us. I have deliberately left the information for historical purposes. Please be thoughtful if you try to contact them and try to find out the situation before doing so.

I am unable to enter into correspondence due to time pressure. If something is genuinely urgent please email me via the Beekeeping website and put "Computing" in the subject line and I will try to deal with it.

Computing, Program & File Downloads

This tool is a page containing several hundred search engines. They are for searching the web or some have special qualities. I no longer use this facility much as I now have 'Google' embedded in my browser.

There is so much free information and software available on the internet. I see no point in 're-inventing the wheel'. Wherever possible I give credit to the source, but in some cases I do not know the originator, if this is you please let me know via the Email button at page bottom, and I will correct the matter.

Warning

For all downloaded files, no matter how good the source,
put them in a 'Download' folder and then check them with a virus checker before using.

DaveCentral (now Freshmeat.net)
Mainly Windows, but an increasing amount of Linux. I found this site the most useful 'gold mine', before it changed to Freshmeat.

Technick.net
Nicola Asuni runs this collection of hardware pin out guides and a huge amount of hardware information. There is free software available as well.

Zdnet
This site stores the files for download on it's own server, so it's much quicker than linking.

Tucows
Mainly for internet files, but has other info as well. It is well known and well used.

Cnet, Download
Many files:- some of which have been around for many years.

 Free Site Search

FreeFind
Is my source of search engine software and individual site search engines.

Psion
In addition to my desktop network of several machines, (so much modified that their mothers would not recognise them), I use a Psion 5
(some of this website was written on it). I also have a Psion 3a. The Psion site seems to have too few upgrades and little new material.

Navigation Note... Owing to some errors early on in the development of this website, this Computing section became linked into much of the Beekeeping section. It really required it's own home page and home button as well. As a result I have designed the unusual dual purpose 'HOME PAGES' button at top left and have used two independent 'HOME' buttons in the bottom strap. This feature will eventually be propagated to all computing pages, in addition there is a dual purpose 'Computing A-Z' and a 'Bees A-Z' as I know some beekeepers peruse this computing section via the existing links.
