Computing, Settings and Dodges

A computer is a tool, to be used as the person using it wishes, NOT how Big Blue and Bill Gates thinks will be good for their business'. One of the problems here is that the only 'computer experts' these days are young, blinkered by their own limited experiences and blinded by rapid progress.

It surprises me how much computer manufacturers, operating system manufacturers and software development engineers, take for granted. Gone are the days when an instruction manual came with a PC... Even if the information is provided as 'Help' files or 'Read Me' documents it would make life easier for those that are not yet computer literate to at least start on the road to such literacy.

I do not claim to be an 'expert', but I can provide some simple tips to help others understand or change computer settings for their benefit.

Eventually, I hope to expand this page to include such things as partitioning hard drives and setting up home built computers from scratch. That will take time... Meanwhile I will add a bits and pieces as they occur to me or are prompted by problems that I find with my own machines.

If you have any tips or tweaks that may be suitable for inclusion here, please Email them using the facility at page bottom.

Any tips given here are given in good faith, but I cannot be held responsible for any crashes or failures that may occur as a result of their use.
