Safety Data Links for Beekeeping Chemicals

General note on chemicals: I do not endorse or advise on chemical treatments, as I am not qualified to do so and there may be dangers beyond my control. New products may be introduced or existing ones withdrawn, so it is difficult to keep up with current information on a website such as this. As many of the chemical pages were generated by Dave Cushman, I am leaving the content mainly as left by Dave for historical purposes only, which may mean information is out of date and unreliable. The user should seek guidance from other sources and satisfy themselves regarding safety and legality. Roger Patterson.

The various substances used in beekeeping, vary from wood preservatives, materials for purifying beeswax, chemical treatments and medications that are used on the bees themselves or against diseases or parasites of bees.

I have compiled the various data sheets from information provided by many chemical companies and suppliers. The data is by no means exhaustive and I recommend that you also search the internet for other sources of such safety information, particularly as the rules in your geographic region or country may differ from what is presented here. Chemical supply companies in your locality may well have information that is more up to date or region specific.

During recent years various acids have come into use as treatments for varroa, please take serious note of the warnings and recommendations on the various data sheets. Many of the documents on this website that deal with chemicals or chemical treatment, may show a corrosive icon in the bottom right hand corner. This may or may not indicate that the material is actually acidic, but should be interpreted to mean a substance that requires special handling or precautions during use.

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information itself, I cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies or errors.

Dave Cushman.
