Selling Beeswax Candles

It is possible to increase sales of beeswax candles by paying attention to quality and presentation.

The market for beeswax candles has taken a knock in recent years... Owing to the practice of making so called "church" candles (these are mostly paraffin wax coloured to look like beeswax).

As many uneducated customers merely buy on price they end up with a poor product and often poor value for money.

There are various ways to make candles more attractive and thus increase sales, June Hughes, in her excellent workshop on candle making that takes place every year at the FIBKA Gormanston Summer School in Ireland, shows many methods of adding value and making simple candles more attractive. I do not wish to spoil her presentation by duplicating it here, but to give a couple of examples... She makes rolled candles of various sizes and makes the outer layer of a contrasting coloured foundation, with patterns like stars and heart shapes incised through the coloured layer to expose the underlying colour. She also makes clear plastic packaging from the film that florists use to wrap bunches of flowers.
