When I was in business I used to turn handles like this from
any convenient softwood or hardwood blanks that were made from off cuts
of various timbers that we used in our business. I also made up blanks
that consisted of strips of different coloured timbers, glued together
under pressure to form a coarse 'plywood' structure.
