Varroa Destructor Behaviour On Wasps |
|---|
What happens when Varroa destructor mistakenly hitches a ride on a wasp.
Due credit must be given to articles that appeared in "The Beekeeper's Quarterly".
I will write a good deal more when I can find the folder about the work, that I have "mislaid" in my untidy filing system.
The only other reference I can find stems from a discovery in Poland, during 1988, when on the 5th of September... Three adult females of Varroa jacobsoni were found on larvae of Vespa Vulgaris, during the destruction of an active nest by M. Jelinski. It was the first record of the occurrence of Varroa jacobsoni in Vespa Vulgaris.
As the date is in 1988 it can be conjectured that the mite concerned was in fact Varroa Destructor, but we will never know for sure unless photographic records were made.
