Extracting the Honey

Part of beekeeping is the processing of honey that the bees have gathered. Participation in this event was a reward for diligence in doing some history research.

The extracting took place on 20th June 2001.

The first two pictures show de capping of the comb with a serrated knife. The frame is held in an upright position by the lug being inserted into a hole which is in a wooden board laid across the stainless steel container, this container has electric heating elements in it's lower portion.

These two images show an alternative tool being used, this is an uncapping fork and usually has cranked tines.

There were more children present on the occasion, but these are the only pictures available owing the camera becoming faulty.
