No Legitimate reason has been discovered. And statements made by some members of the executive committee regarding this data, have so far proved to be invalid or unjustified.
I report this matter so that others may become aware that this is happening. The data registration details can be viewed by following the procedure laid out in the panel below.

I have had a number of personal concerns about the BBKA and the way that it is run for many years. I am also a trustee of the L&RBKA, but these expressed views are my own and may or may not reflect the views of other L&RBKA trustees.
I have voiced disquiet on a number of previous occasions, and about a number of different activities of the BBKA. On these occasions I have been asked by others to put myself forward for election, so that I could at least put my points at a higher level. However, when I was a beekeeping equipment manufacturer, I did not think it was appropriate for me to be actively involved as it could be considered a 'conflict of interest'.
I have been asked again, more recently, but although I am no longer involved in the beekeeping trade my opinions of the BBKA have sunk so low in recent years, that I would not wish to be a Trustee of it's executive.
I have taken much trouble to ensure that what I state is absolutely factual, totally truthful and it is hoped that it is presented for what it is... 'dissent' and is not in any way slanderous.
One of the main problems that I see regarding data registration, is the fact that the BBKA reserve the right to trade in data. I have been told by individual (currently serving) trustees that there is no intention of such trading. However if there is no intention of so doing, the honest approach would be to make this 'official' by removing the provision from the registration altogether. This is because the current BBKA administration have no way of limiting the uses to which the data may be put, by future BBKA trustees.
The shear amount of headings under which data can be collected and stored should be 'ringing alarm bells' among those of you that are aware of data protection matters.
The privacy of the data held is a strong feature in my concern. As of October 24 2004 the only Privacy policy available is that which appertains to the website, but as of this date no 'privacy policy' has been published by BBKA in relation to the data held on individual members.
I am perplexed that no facility exists, whereby data may be 'flagged'.
For instance, I have given BBKA specific instructions about what they may and may not do with any data that they may hold on me. However when the database operator has been asked what special provisions apply, they are unable to tell me. I have specifically forbidden the BBKA to hold any data other than my name until such time as they can convince me of the integrity of their system and remove the right to transmit such data to third parties for business purposes.
I am concerned about the level of awareness of delegates and officers of member associations about the provisions of the Data Protection Act and how that act affects the way they handle data, whether that be by computer or on paper. I have similar concerns that many that make decisions or vote on BBKA issues do not have sufficient knowledge of the charities act and the responsibilities and liabilities that are a consequence.
All of the above concerns have been repeated on many occasions. I also have a minor niggle about the way copyright is claimed on all content of their website (in the terms of use), but this is a minor issue compared to the rest.
