Personal Concerns, of David A. Cushman (about the BBKA and some BBKA policies)

This page is not meant to be an attack on the BBKA, any of it's officers or any members of any of the affiliated member associations. However my views are held with strong conviction and may be presented in a blunt fashion.

I have voiced disquiet on a number of previous occasions, and about a number of different activities. On these occasions I have been asked by others to put up for election so that I could at least put my points at a higher level. However, when I was a beekeeping equipment manufacturer, I did not think it was appropriate for me to be actively involved. I have been asked again, more recently, but my opinions of the BBKA have sunk so low in recent years that I would not wish to be a Trustee of it's executive.

I consider it sad when democracy fails to deliver an honest verdict. The ideal of consensus by majority vote is a fine and fair one, but it falls down if all options are not presented and explained to those that are voting. This failure to properly appraise delegates of the implications of one path or another or indeed all possible paths is at best less than honest and at worst is criminal deception.

This has happened in the case of the BBKA database which amounts to an annexation of all members of member associations. The depth of detail and categories of this data is over and above any legitimate needs in running the BBKA. The registration document can be seen on the link at top left and I draw your attention to just one small detail...
If you are a member or supporter of BBKA the database is entitled to hold these following data classes:-

Personal Details
Family, Lifestyle and Social Circumstances
Employment Details
Financial Details
Membership Details
These details are held for Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations purposes.
This is only one small aspect among many I ask you... How many of you were appraised of that? Would you have voted for the database if you had known?
